Spooky Obstacle Course at Kent Primary

Posted Date: 10/26/26 (01:11 PM)

The Spooky Obstacle Course is a Kent Primary School tradition that is so much fun that students do not even realize they are learning important physical education skills at the same time.
The children in Daina Sinclair and Marsha Cotten's first grade classes swung on ropes, climbed a rock wall and rolled their way through a haunted house, while physical education teachers Brendan Connolly and Jack Thuesen guided them in strength training and safety at the same time.  "This is so cool," one child said.

In the week leading up to Halloween, the school transforms its gymnasium into a Spooky Obstacle Course.
"The set-up takes a long time," said Mr. Connolly, pointing to the obstacle course of blow-up houses, ropes, hoola hoops and padding throughout the KPS gym. "But once we get going, the kids don't want to stop."
This annual gym treat provides a festive and active way for students to learn, and it incorporates a variety of important elementary level physical skills, including climbing over, under and through, as well as hopping, skipping, rolling and even flipping.
All the better to prepare them for the Halloween candy that is surely coming on the holiday itself.
