Lunchtime Tournament Fun at CHS

Posted Date: 11/02/26 (08:59 AM)

Carmel High School is shooting for a brand-new tradition: lunchtime tournaments that bring students from across the school together to have fun, relax and interact with one another.  Fourteen teams of students competed recently in a 3-on-3 basketball tournament in front of a crowd of enthusiastic supporters in the high school gym.

In the final playoff game, the team that included Ryan Sinnott, Jack Vickery and Gio Scuderi won.  The three went home with new Community Lunch Tournament Champion T-shirts.

"The inaugural 3-on-3 tournament shows how the new schedule can make lunch more than a break in the academic day," Principal Brian Piazza said. "By creating time and space for students to come together, community lunch helps foster a stronger sense of connection throughout the school."

Introduced this year, community lunch means all students share a 45-minute lunch period. The schedule change gives students more opportunities to interact, participate in activities and connect with classmates they might not otherwise encounter. The basketball tournament put those opportunities into action and turned the lunch period into a competition that encouraged student participation and school spirit.
Given the excitement the games created and the great turnout, it's likely to be the first of many lunchtime tournaments at Carmel High School.
